Assignment 7. . Practice insect vigilance-organically.
This Week’s Goal: To get a sense of what insects you may expect in your garden—and what you can do about them.
Assignment 7. Practice insect vigilance-organically.
This Week’s Goal: To get a sense of what insects you may expect in your garden—and what you can do about them.
Step One. Identify which vegetables that you are growing might have problems with insects.
Step Two. Identify the insects that might be the troublemakers for those plants.
Step Three. Research organic methods of control for the insects.
Magee Example:
I identified three vegetable plants that I’ve historically had insect challenges with, I’ve named the insects and I’ve researched methods of control and put them into this simple chart.

Homework for Assignment 7. So your assignment for this week is to:
1. Make a simple nine cell table and Microsoft Word.
2. In the first column, write in three vegetables (I did 4!) that you’re going to be growing that you might have insect problems with.
3. In the second column, adjacent to each vegetable, write in the insect that would probably cause them trouble.
4. In the third column, adjacent to each insect, write in a solution that you can use to protect the plant from this insect or get rid of the insect.
3. Nonprofit Professional Development:
Time to use your notebook! Print out this homework sheet and jot down a few things that maybe you had trouble doing and that you will need to remember when you begin teaching your urban constituents. Punch holes in it and stick it in your notebook.
