OL 344. For Long-Term Sustainability: Give the Community a Plan for Project Management and Takeover

These adaptation projects are for the long-term. Plan your project management to make sure that the community is fully engaged in the process during project launch and prepared for project handover to the community when your grant cycle is over.

What? An 8 week, self-paced training program where you will each continue the development of your climate change project. Each one of the assignments will be a concrete step in preparing your project for launch and eventual takeover. By the end of the 8 weeks, you will have developed a management plan and a simple monitoring and evaluation plan for the community to use—and you will have launched the project.

Learn by doing.

We also need to make sure that we successfully deliver a set of skills to the community through a family of workshops so that they will be able to implement the project activities alongside us. You will launch the project and orchestrate for the project handover to the community at the end of your grant cycle.

How? A dual approach will be used in this course:
1. The course will lead you through the continued development of your project by working closely with and engaging community members.
2. For long-term sustainability you will begin training and preparing community members for eventual project take-over when it’s time for your NGO to move onto another project.

This course is perfect for nonprofit professionals working in adaptation in areas such as food security, watershed management, agriculture, the environment, sustainable development, or DRR—and who want to develop practitioner-level skills. If you are a grant writer, nonprofit staff member, consultant, project manager—or an executive director—you will develop real skills mastery.
